JD has openly talked about his poor life in his childhood, stating that he had to fend for himself often. He describes some kind of turning point in his life from when he moved on from killing animals to people, but didn't go into full detail. Jeremy was arrested with several counts of various crimes, as he did his work serially. There was a large scale investigation following up to his arrest, in which he was called the Miami Maneater by both the public and law enforcement. 

JD met Thompson through his incarceration in a maximum security prison. They clicked immediately, and decided upon mutual protection wherever they may end up together.

Fittingly, they both got selected to the Unassociates Program of Europe. Where JD uses his blunt force skills and killing experience to good use.
