Byzantium

The government doesn't want the public to know about this mineral, nor do they want to use it themselves.

So it's placement on the Periodic Table is a solid two inches next to another element--that is separated from the rest of the table and is frowned upon due to it's rarity and exclusivity in superstores: Pizzazium Infonionite. It's size compared to all the other elements is described as: Invisible to the ignorant eye, or the more politically correct term of the naked eye. 

The mineral is capable of outputting a unique form of energy that rivals electricity by a long shot. Byzantium in it's most pure form is a solid in a star like shape, similar to stars seen on the hats of some individuals.

Land Ho's CEO has had his fair share in the stuff, using it for some of his own personal pleasure (bag pipe improvements).

The Byzantinator is a weapon that is made of Byzantium, and supported with magic. The large shard in the middle of it outputs large burst of it's energy like that of a shotgun.

Currently, the contractors of the two groups of mercenaries are in a race trying to get their hands on a large amount of it that's on Land Ho grounds.
Them and, one of their mercenaries...

This large amount of Byzantium could do many things for whoever gets their hands on it. It really only matters whose hands it gets into.
