The Speed Demon

Appearance

A low polygon and interestingly modified Dry Bones model. With distinct purple, orange, and blue flames emanating from its head. It's discolored in comparison to the original, white upside down question marks for eyes, and it has very obvious wheels for feet.

Biography

Game hopper, race dominator.

The entity takes on the shape of the common enemy: Dry Bones. In the first testing copies of Mario Kart DS, there was one staff ghost that was different from the rest. One that very clearly cheated. It wasn’t like the fair challenge of the other ghosts, it used too many mushrooms, it jumped walls, and it used other items. It completely broke the rules, and was fixed very quickly into development. However they didn’t dispose of these cartridges properly, and these copies became a pretty hot item on reselling websites. A scalping price wasn’t the only thing to pay with these things. The entity found a way into other games with Dry Bones in it through the DS’ specific compatibility with the 3DS, and then the portal opened to every other game with an instance of this skeletal Koopa. It has simple goals: Learn the game, ruin the game. Whatever means necessary, even if it means to delete certain characters or boundaries. It’s completely harmless to real life, but completely ruins any copy that includes the specific character. It’s so specific that players won’t realize their copies have been ruined until it’s too late. It’s appearance is exactly how it was in the DS, so recognizing it is almost instantaneous. However older games before Mario Kart DS are capable of being corrupted as well, and will be able to downgrade the entity’s resolution.

Overview

Now you're playing with nitro!

Age: 20 (From Mario Kart DS release date)
Gender: Non-binary (They/It)
Species: Virus

Specifics

Marrow is particularly good at "Snaking," a popular and notorious drifting strategy in Mario Kart DS.

Marrow is incapable of speech, but their emotions and actions tell enough.

Trivia

Marrow is obviously based and structured around Dry Bones, which so happens to be my main in Mario Kart.

This character was created because of the unbroken winning streak I've had in Mario Kart 8 for a while. Try me.

They will not be added, but for a short moment in development, I proposed the idea of adding Marrow to Pipe-Fall.

Marrow was originally going to have no legs, and in place of those legs would be a kart.

Scrapped Pipe-Fall Concepts

HM encountered Marrow amongst their search for more contestants in their game. Marrow mistook him for Mario, and followed their protocol accordingly. Making it impossibly difficult for HM to reach them, and they only ceased this when they heard HM offer them a deal:

“Would you like to play a REAL game?”

Marrow giggled at this offer, but reached their polygonal hand out. They made their deal.

Marrow is blissfully unaware of the real repeated deaths of all the survivors, but wouldn’t care anyway, for they get to have a game for eternity.

Full Character Concept:

Intro:
Marrow akira slides from the POV of the camera, gets out of their tanker, and walks towards the camera.

Moveset:
Marrow is a character reliant on being both fair and unfair, while also being primarily based on PCX’s moveset. (Damage stats are vague for the sake of me being unaware of survivor health and balance)

Base:

Smaller character
High speed
Stamina to compensate for speed
Low-High Damage (With Abilities)

M1 Hit:

Function: Marrow leans into a chomp
Damage: Low
Goal: “Break me off a piece of that KitKat bar”

Ability 1, Accelerator:
Function: Marrow summons his kart and charges in a straight line, can be turned ever so slightly.
Damage: Risk Damage with Large Knockback.
Goal: Do a significant amount of damage and knockback to however many survivors within a very tight space. Best utilized for removing Supportive or High Value survivors from the rest of their lobby, and for single target kills and damage.

Ability 2, Crazy 8:
Function: Marrow raises an arm up to reveal a glass box similar to that of an item box, and breaks it with a clench. A HUD element is present when playing Marrow, an empty box that displays an item that is selected at random. These can be used to hurt or hinder survivors, or as utility for Marrow. These must be used in order to be able to get a new one.
Damage: Varying Damage/Effectiveness
Goal: Strategizing RNG for wiping out survivors and getting closer to them.

Items:
Banana Peel - Can be tossed or placed on the ground depending on the aim of the player’s camera. Upon stepping on a peel, a small but effective amount of stamina is drained and the survivor is stunned for a very quick interval with an animation.

Green Shell - A ranged attack that goes into the direction that was aimed, can bounce off walls 3 times and then breaks. Does moderate damage.

Red Shell - A ranged attack that will hone towards the nearest survivor within a certain range, if not within this range it acts as a green. Does moderate damage.

Mushroom - A utility item that gives Marrow a speed boost for 2 seconds. Does absolutely no damage for any reason and Marrow does not stop moving until after the 2 seconds. Cannot be cancelled unless Marrow hits a wall.

Notes from NIX
